Sinus Medication - Allergies

Sinus infection may be caused or aggravated by allergies. In allergy-related sinusitis, antihistamines may prove helpful, such as loratadine (Claritin), fexofenadine (Allegra) or desloratadine (Clarinex). OTC antihistamines like diphenhydramine (Benadryl) are no longer recommended for sinus infection because they thicken and dry out mucus, making it difficult to drain the nasal passages.

New OTC sinus medication has been developed that have decongestant and anti-allergy ingredients. Some of the popular combo sinus medications include the Advil Sinus brand of products and the all-natural Sinus Buster.

Before trying out any new sinus medication, it is strongly advised to consult with a doctor first if these new drugs are advisable to take.
